Your Dashboard Determines Your Edge
A cluttered dashboard (100 metrics) is worse than no dashboard. A perfect dashboard (5 key metrics) turbocharges decision-making.
The Core 5 Metrics Every Dashboard Needs
Don't add anything else until these are locked in:
- Portfolio P&L (dollar and %): How much are you up/down today and all-time?
- Watchlist summary: Quick view of tickers you're tracking
- Active alerts: What notifications are pending?
- AI recommendations: What's the latest signal?
- Market sentiment: Is the market bullish or bearish overall?
Dashboard Layout Principles
Design your dashboard like a trading cockpit:
- Top-left: P&L (most important): Always visible, biggest font
- Top-right: Watchlist: Your focus list (5-10 tickers)
- Bottom-left: Market sentiment: Context for decisions
- Bottom-right: Alerts: Fired notifications and pending
- Center (full-width): AI recommendations: Key action items
Customization by Trading Style
Different traders need different dashboards:
- Day traders: Intraday P&L, micro-level alerts, 1-minute charts
- Swing traders: Daily summary P&L, 4-hour chart view, daily alerts
- Position traders: Weekly/monthly P&L, portfolio allocation, rebalancing suggestions
- Dividend/income: Dividend income tracking, ex-dates, yield metrics
Colors and Visual Hierarchy
Use color strategically (not decoratively):
- Green: Gains, positive signals, bullish
- Red: Losses, risk alerts, bearish
- Gray: Neutral, no action, informational
- Yellow/orange: Warnings, high-alert items
Real-Time Updates vs. Batched Updates
Choose update frequency:
- Real-time: Every price tick (drains battery, increases distraction)
- 1-minute batches: Good compromise (responsive but not overwhelming)
- 5-minute batches: Good for swing traders
- Daily batches: Good for position traders
TradePilot updates on 1-minute batches (good balance for most traders).
Must-Remove Dashboard Items
Things that clutter your dashboard:
- News scroll (see feeds separately, not dashboard)
- Company fundamentals (check when researching, not trading)
- Historical charts (analyze separately, not in dashboard)
- Trade history (review after session, not during)
- Education/tutorials (dashboard is for action, not learning)

The Dashboard Edge
Your dashboard is your command center. A good one forces better decisions. A bad one distracts you into worse ones.
