Passive Income From Trading Is Possible, Not Easy
Most traders chase capital gains and lose money. Passive income traders collect dividends and premium and sleep well. The mindset is completely different and much healthier.
Passive Income Trading Methods
Dividend capture: Buy high-dividend stocks before ex-date, sell after. 4-6% annual returns. Boring but works.
Covered calls: Own stock, sell calls against it for premium. 10-20% annual returns if stocks don't explode higher. More interesting.
Cash-secured puts: Sell puts on stocks you want to own, collect premium. Get assigned (own stock) or keep the premium. Returns depend entirely on strike selection, volatility and what the underlying does — it is not a fixed yield, and the downside is owning a stock that kept falling.
Dividend reinvestment: Own dividend stocks, reinvest divs. Compound returns over decades. Boring but wealthy.
Income vs. Growth Trade-off
Income strategies underperform in bull markets. They outperform in bear markets. You sacrifice 20% upside to avoid 40% downside. Fair trade if you have long time horizon.
Real Numbers
$100k account, 12% annual passive income = $12k per year or $1k per month in dividends/premium. Not life-changing but real.
$500k account = $5k per month passive income. Now it matters.
The Passive Income Reality
You won't get rich fast. You will get rich reliably. Build capital to $100k first, then focus on income generation.
